Contact: Lisa Elovich MILLER CHALLENGES ROSSY FOR NYS HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE ON THE KLITCHKO-BROCK UNDERCARD AT THE GARDEN NOVEMBER 11TH Albany, N.Y. October 11, 2006 –Shannon Miller (14-2, 8 KOs) will challenge champion Derric Rossy (13-0, 8 KOs) for the New York State Heavyweight title on the undercard of the Vladimir Klitschko-Calvin Brock heavyweight championship fight at Madison Square Garden on November 11th. The 10-round fight, certain to draw fans from throughout the state, adds another feature attraction to the championship card at the Garden. In the night’s headline, Klitschko (46-3, 41 KOs) defends his IBF and IBO belts against the undefeated Brock (29-0, 22 KOs), televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing. In another feature bout, Laila Ali (22-0, 19 KOs) defends her super middleweight titles vs. Shelly Burton (8-2-1, 2 KOs). Miller, of Troy, N.Y., has been around the boxing ring his entire life, fighting his first amateur bout at just eight years old. His father and manager, Bob Miller, is a fixture in upstate boxing who founded Troy’s Uncle Sam Boxing Club. In 2005, Miller fought in one of ESPN2's “Fights of the Year” against Vinny Maddalone (27-3, 19 KOs). Boxing analyst Dan Rafael called it "ESPN2's most dramatic fight and the best heavyweight bout of the year." Rossy, of Medford, N.Y., will make the second defense of his title since winning it with a second-round TKO over Gary Bell (22-3-1, 15 KOs) in February 2006. The undefeated Long Island heavyweight was a standout defensive lineman at Boston College before turning his attention to boxing. He was 10-0 as an amateur and has moved quickly up the heavyweight ranks since turning pro in 2004. “We are thrilled to have this exciting opportunity to fight at Madison Square Garden for the NYS Heavyweight Title,” said Lisa Elovich, Pugnacious Promotions, Miller’s promoter. “Shannon is now in the best shape of his life and we are confident that he can win this title and become one of the top up and coming heavyweights in his division. Shannon's powerful style of fighting will bring the crowd at The Garden to their feet". "I look forward to fighting for the NYS Heavyweight Title and plan on bringing it back to the Capital Region," said Miller. Advance tickets – $75.00 to $400.00 – are available through Pugnacious Promotions at info@pugnaciouspromotions.com, or 518-424-8109. ### Return to News |
