MARSHALL
– PIERRE TO HEADLINE Albany, NY – Long-time
contender Tony Marshall (37-12-5, 13 KOs) of Albany, NY will face rising
prospect Lenord “The Haitian Sensation” Pierre (17-1, 12 KOs), of
Catskill, NY in the headline bout of Pugnacious Promotions’ October 28th
boxing card at the Washington Avenue Armory, in Albany, NY.
Marshall has faced many of
the best fighters of his generation, from Aaron Davis and Glenwood Brown
to Ronald “Winky” Wright, Kassem Ouma and Fernando Vargas.
He held the NABF Light Middleweight title and challenged for both
the WBC and WBA light middleweight belts.
In his last fight, Marshall won a thriller by seventh round TKO
over Advtandil “The Hammer” Khurtsidze (6-1-1, 4 KOs), a hungry
young fighter from the Republic of Georgia, at Saratoga Gaming and
Raceway on May 13th. He
last fought in Albany in 1997, a 10-round unanimous decision win over
future WBC Light Middleweight champion Keith Mullings at the Pepsi
Arena. Pierre is a talented
prospect trained by Kevin Rooney at the Cus D’Amato Catskill Boxing
Club. Originally from
Haiti, he compiled an undefeated record of 16 victories with 11 KOs
before losing by TKO to fellow Empire State prospect “Irish” John
Duddy (12-0, 11 KOs) from Queens, NY by way of Derry, Ireland.
Since that setback, he has a six-round TKO win over Buffalo, NY’s
Les Ralston (15-2, 8 KOs) and a no contest due to an accidental head
butt with veteran Manning Galloway (62-18-1, 14 KOs, Columbus, OH). The Halloween weekend Albany
boxing card also will feature other local fighters in competitive bouts,
including heavyweight Shannon Miller (11-1, 6
KOs, Troy, NY), heavyweight Gary Wilcox (19-3-1, 6 KOs, Saratoga
Springs, NY), welterweight Frank Houghtaling (19-9-5, 4 KOs, Colonie, NY),
welterweight Wayland Willingham (7-0, 4 KOs, Albany, NY) and junior
welterweight Hervey Medina (4-0-1, 1 KO, Highland, NY). The Capital District
Military Family Support Group, a grass-roots organization that educates
and supports local military families and the community about the needs
of families facing deployment and re-integration, will join Pugnacious
Promotions and help acknowledge the contribution of the 101st
Calvary who just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq three weeks ago.
Event sponsor Gold’s Gym will donate a one-year gym membership
at any of its three locations to be raffled off and 100% of the raffle
proceeds will benefit the Capital District Military Family Support
Group. Tickets are on sale at the
