MANO-A-MANO FOR "CAPITAL REGION CRUISERWEIGHT
TITLE CHALLENGE" AT WASHINGTON AVENUE ARMORY NOV. 9TH
Albany, N.Y. October 18,
2007 – Local cruiserweights Chris Horn (2-0, 1 KO) and Jerry Speigel
(3-1, 2 KOs) will face off in the "Capital Region Cruiserweight Title
Challenge," a non-sanctioned, ceremonial competition to find the best
local 190-lb boxer, on the Veteran's Day weekend pro boxing card
November 9th at Albany's Washington Avenue Armory.
Horn, a resident of Guilderland who was born and raised in Berne, N.Y.,
was a NYS Golden Gloves champion and Empire State Games Gold Medalist in
1997 and 1999. He competed in 50 amateur fights before turning pro in
2000. He returned to the ring July 7th on the Pugnacious card at Joe
Bruno Stadium with a first-round TKO win over pro debuter Billy Barron.
Speigel, an experienced boxer and mixed martial arts fighter, also
returned to the boxing ring July 7th in Troy with a first-round TKO
victory over pro debuter Demond Grant. Since turning pro in 1995,
Speigel has competed in more than 30 MMA fights and won the Extreme
Fighting International Light Heavyweight Championship in September 2007.
He is a lifelong resident of Troy, N.Y.
"Chris and Jerry are both very entertaining fighters and have big local
followings, " said Lisa Elovich, promoter of the event. "I am thrilled
to have them both on my card again and I know the fans are in for a big
treat with this bout."
"Friday Night Fights" returns to the Armory, home of CBA's Albany
Patroons, for the first time in 2007 after a successful run of shows in
2005-2006. The event also will honor military service and veterans from
throughout the Capital Region, acknowledging vets during the fights and
offering group discount rates for local veteran's organizations.

$75 and Reserved are $40, both on the floor. General Admission open
