AMATEUR, PROFESSIONAL STANDOUT BRANDON MITCHEM
SIGNS WITH PUGNACIOUS PROMOTIONS

Albany, N.Y. – Middleweight Brandon Mitchem (22-4, 8 KOs), an exceptional professional boxer who had an outstanding amateur career, has joined forces with promoter Lisa Elovich and signed a promotional contract to fight exclusively for Pugnacious Promotions.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to promote Brandon,” said Elovich.  “His experience and skill give him tremendous potential to take his career to the next level and earn a title shot in the near future.”

“Brandon fought at the highest level as an amateur and has had an impressive pro career,” she said.

A native of the South, Mitchem began his pro career in Las Vegas before moving to Kingston, N.Y., where he and his wife, Leah, continued their college studies.  Inactive since 2003, he has 26 fights as a professional, including jr. middleweight titlist Bronco McKart, contender Larry Marks and Mexican middleweight champion Rito Ruvalcaba.  He was a finalist for NBC’s Contender TV series and has traveled the world assisting world-ranked and champion boxers for big fights, including Bernard Hopkins, Kostya Tzyu, and William Joppy.

As an amateur, Mitchem won the 1996 National Golden Gloves at welterweight and earning a spot as 1996 Olympic alternate, narrowly losing the Olympic Box-Off match with Fernando Vargas 17-14.

Born into the sport of boxing, Mitchem’s father, Randy, was a professional boxer in the 1980s who fought champions and contenders such as Ronnie Shields, Johnny Bumphus and Simon Brown. Mr. Mitchem would often take his son along with him to bouts around the United States.

“I am very happy to be working with Lisa and know that I am ready to fight at the next level,” said Mitchem.  “I am looking forward to fighting in front of the Capital District fans.”

Mitchem will return to the ring on Pugnacious Promotions’ next card at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany, N.Y. on Friday, March 17th.  That show will be headlined by IBC Welterweight titlist Frank Houghtaling (19-9-5, 4 KOs), of Albany, who will face former Canadian Welterweight Champion Hercules Kyevelos (22-2, 11 KOs), of Montreal, Canada, in an eight-round fight.

Also, appearing on the card are Troy heavyweight Shannon Miller (12-1, 6 KOs), Albany welterweight Liz Mooney (3-2, 1 KO) and junior welterweight Wayland Willingham (7-0, 4 KOs), a native of Albany.

Tickets are on sale at the Armory box office, 518-694-7160, or through Ticketmaster by phone, 518-476-1000, any outlet or online at www.ticketmaster.com.  General Admission tickets are $25; Reserved, $40, Ringside, $75 and first two rows, $100.  Corporate tables are also available for groups of 10, with additional services.
