PRYOR, JR. – ALPHONSO WILLIAMS TOPS Albany, N.Y. February 19, 2008 – Super middleweight prospect Aaron Pryor, Jr. (8-0, 6 KOs) faces his toughest challenge against rugged Alphonso Williams (10-3, 8 KOs) in the eight-round, ESPN2/Friday Night Fights-televised co-feature March 21st at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Pryor, Cincinnati, Ohio, is the son of Hall of Fame junior welterweight champion Aaron “The Hawk” Pryor (39-1, 35 KOs), who was part of two of the greatest fights of his era vs. Nicaraguan champion Alexis Arguello (82-8, 65 KOs). Pryor, Jr. fights out of Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward’s Kronk Gym in Detroit and is poised to make a run at being ranked at the top of his division.
The Pugnacious Promotions card’s televised main event pits Irish middleweight prospect Andy Lee (15-0, 12 KOs) against The Contender’s Brian Vera (15-1, 9 KOs) in a 10-round fight. The undercard also features undefeated young prospects stepping up against tough competition, including light welterweight Wayland Willingham (13-0, 8 KOs), regional featherweight champion Matt Remillard (12-0, 5 KOs) and Irish super bantamweight Paul Hyland (9-0, 3 KOs).
"I am thrilled to work with Aaron Pryor Jr. and Emanuel Steward on this exciting bout” said Lisa Elovich, promoter of the event. “ Williams is a tough and skilled boxer whose crafty style makes for great -you pick em- type- fights.”
Williams, Pittsburgh, Penn., is a durable slugger who is Pryor's toughest opponent. He challenged Maxell Taylor (13-2, 5 KOs) for the West Virginia State Light Middleweight title, fought veteran contender Jose Celaya (30-3, 16 KOs) and upset prospect Derrick Ennis (12-2, 9 KOs) by third-round TKO. In his last fight, he battled a grueling eight rounds with awkward southpaw slugger Russell Jordan (15-5, 9 KOs) on Pugnacious Promotions’ Veteran’s Day weekend card in November.
