Albany,
N.Y. – Undefeated junior welterweight Wayland Willingham (7-0, 4 KOs),
a native of Albany, N.Y. who now boxes out of Atlanta, Ga., has signed
an exclusive promotional contract with promoter Lisa Elovich of
Pugnacious Promotions.
“I
am really excited to have Wayland as part of the Pugnacious team,”
said Elovich. “He has tremendous potential and is the type of
fighter that will do what it takes to become a champion.
He is a dedicated boxer, who is in great shape and continues to
grow as a fighter with each bout. In
addition to his pugilistic skills, he is also a terrific person, who is
intelligent, hard-working, and committed.”
The
26 year-old southpaw will return to the ring at the Washington Avenue
Armory in Albany on Friday, March 17th, his first fight in front of an
Albany crowd. That show
will be headlined by IBC Welterweight titlist Frank Houghtaling (19-9-5,
4 KOs), of Albany, who will face former Canadian Welterweight Champion
Hercules Kyevelos (22-2, 11 KOs), of Montreal, Canada, in an eight-round
fight. Boxing
since the age of 15, Willingham was born and raised in Albany.

currently serving her second term in the Albany County Legislature. Willingham
began his pro career in Atlanta, Ga. where he attended college.

fight in front of local fans on the Shannon Miller-Vinny Maddelone
undercard, August 19, 2006 in Saratoga Springs.
In his first TV fight, he earned a four-round decision win over
crafty veteran Shakha Moore, which was televised on ESPN2’s “Friday
Night Fights.” “I
am happy to take my career to the next level,” said Willingham.
“I’m looking forward to fighting for friends and family at home.”
