March 17, 2006 - St. Patrick's Day Showdown:  Boxing Returns to the Armory

Professional boxing returned to the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany, NY on Friday, March 17th, when local boxers fought competitive match-ups in front of friends and family on a St. Patrick’s Day card presented by Lisa Elovich and Pugnacious Promotions.

An enthusiastic holiday crowd packed the  Armory for  "Friday Night Fights:  St. Patrick's Day Showdown," the first boxing card of 2006 presented by the promoter who has returned boxing to New York's Capital-Saratoga region.

Shannon Miller (13-1 7 KOs, Troy, NY) and Liz Mooney (4-2, 2 KOs, Feura Bush, NY) won TKO victories -- Miller against David Chappell (7-6, 3 KOs, Portsmouth, VA) in the sixth and Mooney against Cristy Nickel (7-5, 3 KOs, August, GA) in the third.  Brandon Mitchem (23-4, 8 KOs, Kingston, NY) and Wayland Willingham (8-0, 4 KOs, Atlanta, GA) won six-round unanimous decisions.  Frank Houghtaling (19-10-5, 4 KOs, Colonie, NY) lost by split decision to Hercules Kyvelos (23-2, 11 KOs, Montreal, Canada) in the eight-round headline bout.

Photographer Jeff Foley provided photos of the show.
