NIGHT FIGHTS: SPRINGTIME SPECTACLE Albany, N.Y. – Two rising New York State welterweights meet in a crossroads fight in the eight-round co-feature of Lisa Elovich and Pugnacious Promotions’ professional boxing card My 19th at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany, NY. Jonathan Tubbs (7-1-1, 3 KOs) and Allen Conyers (8-2, 6 KOs) are both coming off losses against tough competition and are looking to get back on the winning track and earn another shot at a national fight. Tubbs, from Rochester, NY, faced Olympian and welterweight prospect Andre Berto (11-0, 9 KOs) in his last fight, losing by third-round TKO. He was one of the most accomplished amateur boxers in Rochester history, compiling an amateur record of 184 wins and 38 losses and a number of tournament wins. As a pro, he won seven out of eight with one draw before facing Berto. Conyers, of Bronx, NY, reeled off eight straight victories as a pro with six KOs before dropping two fights to fellow propects Delvin Rodriguez (18-1-1, 10 KOs) and Maximino Cuevas (9-3-1, 4 KOs). Both were see-saw battles with Conyers coming up short. His last fight against Cuevas was for the vacant New York State Junior Middleweight title. After hurting Cuevas in the second round, he got caught with a hook that staggered him and caused the referee to stop the fight. “Friday Night Fights: Springtime Spectacle” will feature an exciting card of local and regional fighters, hip-hop entertainment and special events to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York. Feature bouts on the card include: 2004 Olympian and prolific amateur champion Roberto Benitez (4-0, 3 KOs), promoted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing, vs. Golden Gloves champion Apollo Welch (3-0, 1 KO); Troy’s Shannon Miller (13-1, 7 KOs) vs. Ralph “Wild, Wild” West (16-7, 13 KOs) in a power-punching heavyweight match-up and Wayland Willingham (8-0, 4 KOs), a native of Albany, vs. Shad Howard (12-6-3, 6 KOs) in a junior welterweight match-up. Also, appearing are Kingston middleweight Brandon Mitchem (23-4, 8 KOs) and Troy welterweight Broderick Antonio, who will make his pro debut.
