MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION OF NORTHEAST NEW YORK JOINS
PUGNACIOUS PROMOTIONS AT “FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS:
SPRINGTIME SPECTACLE” MAY 19TH AT THE ARMORY

Albany, NY – The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York will join Pugnacious Promotions at the next pro boxing card at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany, NY and participate in special events to benefit the foundation.

Make-A-Wish, which grants the wishes of children living with life-threatening medical conditions, has 71 chapters across the United States and over 25 international affiliates on five continents. It has granted more than 144,000 wishes since its founding in 1980.

Founded in 1986, the Northeast New York chapter has granted over 700 wishes, including visits to Walt Disney World® Resort and New Zealand, receiving a keyboard and play system, feeding the hungry, and meeting celebrities such as Barney, the Dixie Chicks, and the New York Yankees.

On May 19th, the chapter will host an information/fundraising table at the boxing event and receive complimentary tickets, the proceeds of a raffle and numerous promotional benefits.

“We are so pleased to work with Pugnacious Promotions on the popular local boxing series and have the opportunity to spread our message to its diverse audience,” said William C. Trigg, PhD, CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York. “Make-A-Wish plays such an important role for families and we are always looking for ways to let them know we are here.”

Lisa Elovich and Pugnacious Promotions include a non-profit partner at every professional boxing event to give back to the community that supports the shows and help raise awareness about causes important to fans. Charity partners included: Capital District Military Families, a grass-roots organization founded by local National Guard families; the Backstretch Employees Service Team (BEST), which assists with the chemical dependency recovery needs of licensed personnel working on the backstretches of Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga Racetracks; and the Fighters Initiative for Support and Training (F.I.S.T.), a charitable organization founded by former heavyweight contender Gerry Cooney that assists retired boxers with the support and training needed to carry on their lives after they leave the ring.

“Make-A-Wish is a very meaningful charity that does so much for families," said promoter Lisa Elovich. “We’re honored to work with them and help carry out their worthy mission.”

“Friday Night Fights: Springtime Spectacle” will feature an exciting card of local and regional fighters and hip-hop entertainment. Feature bouts on the card include: 2004 Olympian and prolific amateur champion Roberto Benitez (4-0, 3 KOs), promoted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing, vs. Golden Gloves champion Apollo Welch (3-0, 1 KO); Troy’s Shannon Miller (13-1, 7 KOs) vs. Ralph “Wild, Wild” West (16-7, 13 KOs) in a power-punching heavyweight match and Wayland Willingham (8-0, 4 KOs), a native of Albany, vs. Shad Howard (12-6-3, 6 KOs) in a junior welterweight match-up.
