NIGHT OF FUTURE CHAMPIONS Saratoga Springs, July 7, 2008 – Undefeated lightweight prospect Mike Faragon (3-0) will step up to six rounds against 11-fight veteran Francisco Palacios (3-4-4, 1 KO) in an undercard feature fight on the annual “Night of Future Champions” summer boxing card at the Saratoga Springs City Center on Friday, July 25th. Faragon, Guilderland, N.Y., was the most successful amateur boxer from this region in recent years, turning pro as the number-one ranked light welterweight in the U.S. on the of Miguel Cotto-Shane Mosley undercard at Madison Square Garden on November 11, 2007. He was 85-15 as an amateur and was 2007 Western Trials light welterweight champion. Palacios, Stamford, Conn., has made a career of challenging former amateur standouts, facing former National Golden Gloves champion Teon Kennedy (8-0, 4 KOs), former US National champion Diego Magdeleno (4-0, 2 KOs) and former Junior Olympics champion Harvey Murray (2-0-2) in his two-year career. “I am thrilled to have Mike Faragon fight on my annual Saratoga show,” said Lisa Elovich promoter of the event. “He is a an exciting young prospect who has a great future ahead of him. Fight fans will love seeing this rising star in action on July 25th!" The six-round fight tops the undercard of the annual pro boxing event showcasing hot, young prospects promoted by Pugnacious Promotions, in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and DiBella Entertainment, during the first weekend of world-class thoroughbred racing at the city’s historic race course. Feature fights on the card – held on the first night of twilight racing the evening before the Breeder's Cup qualifier Whitney Stakes – will be televised on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights.” Former IBO middleweight champion Ray Joval (37-4, 16 KOs) faces middleweight prospect and famous boxing son James "Buddy" McGirt, Jr. (18-1, 9 KOs) in the 10-round main event. Saratoga Springs heavyweight Gary Wilcox (21-3, 7 KOs) takes on his toughest challenge in recent years in the eight-round co-feature fight against undefeated, young prospect Nagy Aguilera (8-0, 6 KOs) from Newburgh, N.Y. Also in regional match-ups on the undercard, Schenectady light welterweight Brian Miller (2-0-2) will face Schenectady pro debuter Bryan Abraham and Albany light heavyweight Markus Williams (1-0, 1 KO) will face Albany’s Donyell Dukes (0-3), in a rematch of a local rivalry.
