Saratoga Springs, N.Y. July 18, 2007 – Two young, standout Irish boxers will make their US debut on the “Night of Future Champions” pro boxing card at the Saratoga Springs City Center on Friday, July 27th. Undefeated super bantamweight Paul Hyland (8-0, 4 KOs), Dublin, will face Allentown, PA’s Arthur Parker (1-1, 1 KOs) and Eurpoean and Irish national champion and pro debuter at light heavyweight Alo Kelly, Westmeath, will face Polish pug Rafel Jastrezbski (0-3-1).
“We have a strong Irish community in the Capital Region who we hope will come out to support these great boxers from Ireland,” said Lisa Elovich co-promoter of the event. “Their USA debuts on the card will surely enhance this exciting night of boxing.”
“Friday Night Fights: Night of Future Champions,” promoted by Pugnacious Promotions and DiBella Entertainment during the first weekend of world-class thoroughbred racing at the city’s historic race course, features two undefeated prospects making a run to the top of their weight divisions. In the headline bout, undefeated welterweight prospect and former Olympian Andre Berto (18-0, 16 KOs) faces former title challenger Cosme Rivera (30-10, 21 KOs) in the toughest test of his promising, young career and Philadelphia heavyweight prospect Chazz Witherspoon (18-0, 12 KOs) takes on a similar test against Talmadge Griffis (24-6-3, 16 KOs) in the co-feature.
Also appearing on the card are Kingston super middleweight Brandon Mitchem (25-4, 8 KOs), who faces veteran Dhafir Smith (16-15-5, 4 KOs) in a six-rounder and Plainview Long Island’s Tommy Rainone (7-0, 2 KOs), who will fight six rounds with Jorge Delgado (3-5, 2 KOs). Feature fights on the card – held on the first night of twilight racing the evening before the Breeder’s Cup qualifier Whitney Stakes – will be televised on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights.”
