HEAVYWEIGHT SHANNON MILLER SIGNS WITH PUGNACIOUS PROMOTIONS

Albany, N.Y. – Local heavyweight boxing favorite Shannon Miller, Troy, N.Y., has joined forces with promoter Lisa Elovich and signed a promotional contract to fight exclusively for Pugnacious Promotions.

Miller (11-1, 6 KOs) most recently fought Vinny Maddalone (25-2, 18 KOs) in the headline fight of the “Battle of the Heavyweights” card at the Saratoga Springs City Center on August 19th.  The show, which was co-promoted by Pugnacious Promotions and Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, was televised live on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights.”  The Miller-Maddalone bout was rated second in the show’s “Top Five Fights” of 2005.  Though Maddalone won the fight by TKO in the fifth round, Miller had won three out of four rounds on ESPN analyst Teddy Atlas’ scorecard and had drawn even on the scorecards of the judges at ringside.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to promote Shannon,” said Elovich.  “His fight in Saratoga against Maddalone showed the tremendous potential he has to take his career to the next level and earn a title shot in the near future.”

“Shannon has the whole package  - great heart, a great chin, intelligence and the boxing instincts one has from being around the ring his entire life,” she said.  “The boxing fans up here are dying to see Shannon and Vinny fight again in Saratoga.  Hopefully, Vinny’s team will realize how important a rematch is to the fans in this region and accept the challenge.”

Miller, who trains at Sweeney’s Boxing & Fitness in Delmar, has been in the gym since he was a child, boxing in his first amateur fight at just eight years old.  He is trained by Billy Growick and managed by his father, Bob Miller, who founded the Uncle Sam Boxing Club in Troy, N.Y., famous for such contenders as Verno Phillips and Kevin Pompey.

“I am very happy to be working with Lisa and know that I am ready to fight at the next level,” said Miller.  “I am rededicated to boxing and in the best shape of my life, both physically and mentally.”

Miller will fight again on Pugnacious Promotions’ next card, which is tentatively scheduled for late October in Albany, N.Y

-30-.
