On Friday, May 13, 2005, professional boxing returned to New York's Capital Region with "Friday the 13th Fights" at Saratoga.  The event had great support from fans in the Albany-Saratoga region, who enjoyed an evening of competitive bouts.

Frank Houghtaling won a unanimous decision over Shakha Moore to earn the IBC International Welterweight title, Tony Marshall stopped a difficult opponent, Avtandil Khurtsidze, in his return to the ring, Shannon Miller beat tough southpaw Corey Gregory over six rounds and Cory Jones began his career with a unanimous 40-36 win over Scott Neblett.  Unfortunately, Liz Mooney's bout was scratched, when her opponent failed to pass the medical screening.

The show was supported by leaders of the area's business community, public officials and boxing fans.  State Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno and former heavyweight contender  Gerry Cooney were honored at the event by Lisa Elovich of Pugnacious Promotions.  Cooney's F.I.S.T. charity received $1 from each ticket sold for its efforts to support boxers when they leave the ring.  Bruno also was guest announcer for the Houghtaling-Moore fight.

"With `Friday the 13th Fights,' professional boxing made a tremendously successful return to Saratoga Springs last week.  The "Sweet Science" has a rich tradition in the Capital Region, and this event not only adds to local boxing lore, but highlights our commitment to attracting championship-style boxing events to the area. I am extremely pleased to have been able to attend such a great showcase."

-Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno
