Miller has been in the gym since he was child, boxing in his first amateur fight at just eight years old. He is managed by his father, Bob Miller, a
fixture in Upstate New York boxing who founded the Uncle Sam Boxing Club in Troy,
NY, famous for such contenders as Verno Phillips and Kevin Pompey.

In October 2007, he faced undefeated
prospect Joe Mesi (36-0, 28 KOs) for the WBC/USNBC Heavyweight
Championship.

Miller
challenged Derick Rossy (18-1 13 KOs) for the NYS Heavyweight Title
at Madison Square Garden in
November 2006.

In 2005, he was part of the fight named by
respected ESPN boxing analyst Dan Rafael as “ESPN2's most dramatic
fight and the best heavyweight bout of the year” against power puncher Vinny Maddalone (25-3, 18 KOs), of Flushing, NY. Though Maddalone won the fight by TKO in the fifth round, Miller had won three out of four rounds on ESPN analyst Teddy Atlas’ scorecard and had
drawn even on the scorecards of the judges at ringside.
